About the Director - Shannon Higgins

I am excited to be the Preschool Director/Teacher for Tri County Area Schools. I previously taught for eight years at the elementary and middle school levels. This is my fourth year with Tri County Area Schools, and I love teaching in such a warm and caring community! Prior to teaching preschool, I taught kindergarten for five years in the metro Detroit area, as well as middle school math for a year. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Central Michigan University. I received my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Oakland University.

I am passionate about teaching! I strive to engage students in developmentally appropriate hands-on activities in all subject areas to make learning exciting for students. I feel that students learn best when actively involved with their learning, and my teaching methods reflect this philosophy.

During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. When I moved to this side of the state, I was and still am very impressed with the friendly people, wonderful communities, and natural beauty of this area. In my free time I also enjoy downhill skiing, attending community events, reading, bike riding, and hiking.

Meet Preschool Teacher - Kari Rayburn

My name is Kari Rayburn, and have been teaching preschool for nine years. This is my second year teaching preschool for Tri County Area Schools. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education, and an endorsement in cognitive impairment.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our five year old daughter, as well as spending time with my family and friends. We love being outside and watching movies together. Our family interests include classic car shows, shopping, and camping. I am so excited for another year at Tri County Area Schools working with the preschool. It's going to be a great year!
